This week I present to you 12月31日, one of the 7 new songs from NMB48's up coming first album てっぺんとったんで!(Teppen Tottande!). The title roughly translates to "Seizing the top position!" and the song is a reference to their goal of performing at the annual Kouhaku Uta Gassen as a solo artist this year.
I don't feel like I can say much about the song since I generally do not like ballads even though this is rather sweet and relaxing in a way. I'd probably only listen to it when I am going to sleep. It's actually rather disappointing considering how great NMB48's earlier works are where they mix their top notch choreography with a quirky factor which gives them a unique edge. The rest of the album should be better though since they have been pretty consistent with churning out hits. My excuse for this is that there's only so much you can do with ballads.
The MV is nice but kind of corny and over dramatic considering how all of them did perform at the Kouhaku albeit as part of AKB48. And it was really odd seeing Yui acting like she's been through all that with NMB48 considering how she was only transferred to the group 3 months ago.
Well I do like how Fuuchan and Keila are getting featured rather prominently in this music video. Keila started out as the number two of Team M and got shafted aside for a while but it seems like she's back at her original position now. Fuuchan on the other hand proves that hard work (and some luck) pays off after working so hard to reach the top of her team.
Do watch out for their album! It's be released on the 27th and comes in three types, two of it comes with a full length concert DVD while the last comes with a movie featuring the members and a voting ticket for a countdown of the 30 best NMB48 songs.
